About
Roy Surrett

Meet Roy Surrett
Ethical. Dependable. Responsive Leadership for District 2.
Roy Surrett has spent his life answering the call to serve. From the halls of Wake Forest University to the front lines of national security, Roy’s career has been defined by one guiding principle: public service is a responsibility to improve the lives of others.
A Foundation in North Carolina
Though he grew up in a hardworking middle-class family in Pennsylvania, Roy’s heart has been in North Carolina since he arrived at Wake Forest University. It was there that he earned his degree in Political Science and, more importantly, met his wife of 37 years, Janet. Together, they built a life rooted in the belief that a strong community starts with a strong family.
As a proud graduate of public schools, Roy knows firsthand that education is the ultimate equalizer. He and Janet raised their three children with that same commitment to service: today, their children serve as a nurse, a public health professional, and a member of the diplomatic community.
38 Years of Dedicated Service
Roy’s professional journey is a testament to his dependability and discretion. For nearly four decades, he served the United States government in roles that required the highest levels of integrity:
-
National Security & Defense: Roy served as a United States Customs Officer before joining the National Security Agency (NSA), where he rose to become a senior leader of multiple organizations.
-
Proven Leadership: He managed complex budgets, handled sensitive foreign policy matters, and was recognized with the NSA Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Meritorious Presidential Rank Award.
-
Global Perspective, Local Values: His career took him across Europe and Asia, but he always returned to the core values of accountability and effective governance.
Invested in Our Community
When Roy isn’t working on political issues, he’s working for his neighbors. His commitment to Eastern North Carolina goes beyond the ballot box—it’s seen in years of volunteering as a youth sports coach and a leader in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He understands that leadership isn't just about what happens in Raleigh; it’s about showing up for our kids on the field and in the classroom.
Roy Surrett has spent 38 years protecting our country. Now, he’s ready to protect our future in the North Carolina Senate.
